Romania’s Soul Project: Making a Difference for Children with Neuroblastoma
December 12, 2024

At Komtur Romania, success is not only measured by numbers but also by the lives touched through dedication and purpose. One initiative that truly reflects this spirit is their neuroblastoma project—a “soul project” that has brought hope to children and families facing one of the toughest battles.
Neuroblastoma is a rare form of childhood cancer, and until recently, no child in Romania had access to treatment. That changed in July 2022, when Komtur Romania introduced Qarziba to their portfolio. This life-saving treatment is a cure for around 70% of patents, giving children the opportunity to be treated locally—in Romanian university centers, by Romanian doctors—bringing care closer to home.
In 2024, 9 children started treatment. Not all of them survived, but for many, the treatment has meant hope—and a chance at life. While Qarziba remains the least profitable product in Komtur Romania’s portfolio, the team’s unwavering commitment to saving lives speaks volumes.
Making this treatment accessible requires a massive amount of effort for each case, and beyond their work in this regard, Komtur Romania also brought the magic of Christmas to paediatric oncology wards at the end of last year. Fully equipped Christmas trees, toys, and games were delivered to brighten the lives of children undergoing treatment. Supported by partners like Recordati, these efforts remind us of the profound joy that small, thoughtful actions can bring.
There is a saying in Romania that sums up the efforts of our colleagues over there in this story: “Omul sfințește locul.” (“The person sanctifies the place.”)
It means that the value and impact of a place come from the people who bring their dedication, work, and heart to it. Congratulations to the entire Komtur Romania team for their remarkable efforts —proof that purpose-driven work makes a real difference, both locally and globally.
