Back from the brink of disaster. Twice!
How Komtur rescued a comparator supply plan and sourced over 300,000 units from China for a three-year clinical trial.
How we did it

It should have been straightforward: source a comparator centrally in Europe, then over-encapsulate it to match the investigational product.
But the supply plan rested on one assumption: the comparator came as a tablet.
When the client discovered that only capsules were available, that assumption became a problem. The capsule shell could not be color-matched to the investigational product as required. The planned approach to blinding no longer worked.
That’s when Komtur got the call.
Our research identified China as the only market where the tablet presentation was still marketed. We had found a way to recover the plan. Now we had to make the supply work.
Finding the right presentation was one thing. Sourcing the volume needed and getting it from China to Europe throughout a three-year trial was another.
Komtur did both, sourcing and exporting over 300,000 units over the course of the study.
A planning mistake had put the trial at risk. A sourcing strategy that looked beyond Europe helped get it back on track and kept the comparator coming.
